September 2009, rather suddenly, I have 4 monarch butterflies on my butterfly bush. I usually only see one during an entire summer. What beauties they are.

She has twins.

A family, I've seen them lurking in the woods just beyond the yard, but she brought them into the yard today. Aug. 08

They clean out my bird feeders. If I come out to fill them, the deer go into the woods just behind the big tree and watch me through the bushes.

Finally, the butterflies are here. They were very late this year. This one is resting on a branch early in the morning, preparing for a day at the blossoms.

Resting on a nearby shrub. They come down out of the pine trees in the morning and spread their wings for a while before heading off to the work of the day.

I'm told this is either an Aphrodite or Great Spangled Fritillary. What wonderful names. I usually see one or two of these every year. They generally show up in mid August.

Indigo Bunting. What a beautiful bird. It's my Mothers Day gift every year, that's when they show up.
